Mr.
Joseph Jeswald
Superintendent |
As
we begin the 2007-2008 school year, I have the distinct pleasure
of
announcing that our school district has been recognized by
the Ohio
Department of Education as an EXCELLENT district. Our students
attained 29 of 30 state indicators. I congratulate our students,
teachers,
principals, and support staff for their tremendous efforts
and commitment
to improving student achievement. I also thank the parents
for the support
shown to our schools and reinforcing what takes place in the
classroom.
In 2007-08, it is our challenge to once again retain that
EXCELLENT rating
and improve further upon our scores.
The new school year also brings opportunities in new programs
and
curriculum enhancements. District-wide, we will implement
Phase I of our
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) initiative.
This all-inclusive
program begins in grades 4 and 5. At our middle school, the
World in Motion program will bring industry mentors into our
4th and 5th classroom for a six-week project. Our junior high
will have the addition of Algebra and a science and technology
class in addition to Lego League Robotics in the 7th and 8th
grade. There will be additional math reinforcement classes
in the 9th and 10th grades.
A new articulation agreement with YSU for engineering will
offer opportunities
for GHS students to earn YSU credit for courses successfully
completed in high school. The high school will also have the
addition of a Teacher Preparation (Education) pathway. The
District, in partnership with YSU, is pursuing dual credit
enrollment courses. This will create opportunities for GHS
students to take college level courses at the high school
and earn both high school and college credits.
Together,
let’s make 2007-08 the best year yet in the Girard schools.
I look forward to seeing you as volunteers in our schools,
as members of PTO and school leadership teams, and at our
extracurricular events.
